New Web Board Installed

, I've installed completely new Web board software for all DarkStep users .  All of the linx on this site have been updated accordingly, so you can just click any board link on this site and post to your little heart's content .

The new board is PHP/MySQL driven, as opposed to the old board which was Perl/CGI script driven, which should noticeably improve the board's speed.  Another new thing is that users no longer need to “join” the board to post; although some of the board features are only available to registered members (e.g. private messaging, user profiles, etc.).  I'll also be installing a few hacks to this new board, as time permits, that will improve its functionality; in the meantime - Enjoy...

Quite A Week!!!

First off, I must appologize for not updating this site during the past week: We were out of town and, unfortunately, I did not have Web access for the duration of the week :( .

As we all know by now, several tragic events unfolded over the course of the week, beginning with he animalistic attacks of Tuesday, September 11^th.  How these “people” can even call themselves human beings, let alone religious leaders, is beyond my comprehension!  As far as I am concerned they are nothing more than rabid beasts that desperately need to be treated as such; put down as rapidly as possible so they don't “bite” someone else and to protect civilized societies all over the world!  And no, this is not vengeance, retribution or even an expression of desire to see them pay for their crimes (which I do not see as even being possible!); my statement is purely based on the future benefit of mankind throughout our world.  These types of people cannot be tolerated or aloud to live amongst us.

I've been very heartened to see that the vast majority of Americans do have the common sense to see that these acts were not perpetrated by the “middle eastern” peoples, American Muslims or even the Muslim religion as a whole, but rather by a group of rabid extremists that obviously don't even care enough about even their fellow countrymen or Muslim brethren to even try to avoid the wrath of nations which they well may have brought upon not only themselves but upon entire nations of people!  We are ALL responsible for our own actions, but being willing to suffer the consequences of those actions is no where near enough; we also must accept that those consequences may have ultimately serious effects on all (including completely innocent people) around us!

Do I support any action(s) that the US government and our military may take as a result of the events on September 11^th?  YOU BET I DO!  Do I also grieve for the loss of innocent lives that may result?  YOU BET I DO!  Is there a way to avoid this anticipate loss of innocent lives, while still eradicating our world of these beasts?  Not that I can see, which I feel to be very unfortunate but none the less necessary if we are ever to live in a world where we can all at least get on a plane, go to work, or even just stop to have a cup of coffee without having to face the very real possibility that we may be blown up by some dogmatic maniac that may just happen to be in the same vicinity!

I am fully aware of the fact that there are literally millions of good, loving people out there, and many of those very good people (including myself) just may have to die some where in the course of events that are about to unfold; be it through the actions of our own government or through some sort of retaliatory response(s) taken by those who chose to stand with our enemies.  Such is the price, at least to me, of living in a world without the random threat of terrorists!  So be it...  Did Omana Bin Laden personally commit, plan and/or otherwise promote these attacks?  I don't personally know, nor do I believe that any of us will ever know; but we can be fairly certain that he, his followers, and many others like them do applaud these actions; and that's enough for me!  ANYONE who can feel good about thousands of innocent lives being wantonly destroyed does not deserve to live amongst civilized people and should, instead, be totally eliminated from society as quickly as possible and regardless of the short-term costs.

There will be no appologies for this article or anything stated within.  I am not sorry if any of this has offended anyone; instead I will say that, if you are offended by anything put forth here then you should most likely search your own soul and your values as you well may be a part of the problem also.

DarkStep.com Has Moved!

First off I'd like to thank Warewolf, at litestep.com for his hospitality and all of his help over the last couple of years!  He's been there right along to host DarkStep on his box and help out where ever he could, even as busy as he's been with other things.

However, what with all of the traffic LiteStep.com has been recieving over the past few months (particularly since it is the only functioning LiteStep domain left!), I realized that his poor DSL connection is almost certainly taxed to its limits more often than not .  So, in light of that and a few other considerations, we've moved DarkStep.com over to its new home with Host Rocket, which also happens to be where the DarkStep Web board is now housed; which will, in turn, make it much more convenient for me to maintain .

So, here we are; home at last!

Since Coolboards has discontinued its free board support, I've decided to install our own bulletin board system to our own Web space (which places things much more in our control).  Henceforth, should you have questions or need support for DarkStep-specific issues, please use the links list either at the top of each page or in the left colume of most pages on this site.

Well as they say, “All good things must end”, so goes the development of DarkStep .  Between watching the DarkStep mailing list (“Well, RL and too much work is taking up all my spare time plus I've kind of lost the desire to code and so nothing much is happening with DarkStep. However, I have had inquiries about the DS source and will be handing it over to Azatoth...”, Fahim Farook, 11/21/2000) and finding out about an interview posted at Floach's site, I've come to learn that DS development by Fahim has died and will soon be reincarnated by azathoth (and company) under a new, yet-to-be-determined name.

Since news updates have been so rare and this turn of events obviously makes the DarkStep domains obsolete, I've decided to keep the DarkStep.com domain as-is for an indefinite period of time; for those of you who choose (as I do) to continue using the shell as it currently stands.  This action is not in any way meant to degrade any efforts toward further development of the shell under a new name and/or developer(s);  I'm just happy with the way that I have DarkStep set up on my systems and suspect that there may be others out there who may feel the same.  In fact, I'm quite anxious to see what the new developer(s) may have in mind for the future of what we have all known as DarkStep, hope to see the shells' development pick up pace dramatically and wish him/them only the very best!

For my part I think it fairly safe to say that I have pretty much lost interest in Web site maintnance and development in general, and no longer have the time to put into daily updates of any  Web site.  I will, however, be available for questions or help in setting up and/or configuring DarkStep; but only in its current state of development.

And with that I'll bid you all good luck...

What Is DarkStep ?

DarkStep is a new shell replacement for Windows^TM 9x\NT\2K which is compatible with most LiteStep themes and modules but has been written from the ground up with the original intent of LiteStep:  To be fast, resource friendly and ultimately configurable.

The shell itself is a mixture of public domain code that has been revised and assembled by Fahim Farook to represent his perception of the ever illusive “perfect shell” replacement :)  While everyone's view of this “perfect shell” most certainly will differ, there is no denying the speed, ease of use and configurability, combined with a very flexible interface.
